What I see most often on a heating repair call
- Pilot won't light. thermocouple, gas valve, or just dust in the pilot tube. Almost always a one-visit fix.
- Hot surface ignitor cracked. the modern replacement for pilot lights. They get brittle after 10-15 years and crack on the first cold start.
- Blower won't kick on. control board, capacitor, or the blower motor itself. Symptoms feel identical.
- Furnace short-cycles. starts and stops repeatedly. Usually a flame sensor, dirty filter, or a flue limit switch.
- Gas smell at the unit. stop running it. Call me. Could be the gas valve, a cracked heat exchanger, or just a bad flex connector.
