Lomita, CA Goodman owner-operator
From my shop on Torrance Blvd, I'm about 9 minutes from Lomita.
Goodman gets a bad rap, mostly deserved before 2015 and mostly undeserved after. The current Daikin-owned Goodman builds equipment that's noticeably better than what was on the trucks 15 years ago. For a rental property, an ADU, or any install where the owner won't be living with it for 20 years, Goodman is honest budget value. I won't put one in my own house, but I install plenty of them in Long Beach and Compton where the math has to work. In Lomita specifically, shares Torrance's sea breeze but a touch warmer inland — Lomita Pines especially gets afternoon heat soak.
Why Goodman in Lomita
For Lomita homes — mostly 1950s ranches and 1960s splits, lots of 1,400 sq ft three-bedroom homes, plus a meaningful number of original wall-furnace setups still going strong — Goodman central systems are a common fit. wall-furnace replacements (I do a lot of these) are the usual maintenance items.
What I see fail on Goodman systems in Lomita
- Older capacitors. pre-2018 Goodman dual-run capacitors fail noticeably faster than current ones — replace on first capacitor service
- Coil corrosion. older Goodman coils don't hold up to coastal salt as well as Carrier or Trane
